Rajiv Gandhi was the first son of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi and Feroze Gandhi. He never wants to join the politics but finally, he entered politics and become the youngest and seventh Prime minister of India.

Rajiv Gandhi was born on 20 August 144 and has studied in Welham Boys School Dehradhun and then he moved to Doon School. He went to England to pursue engineering but he left that course without completing the degree. He met Edvige Antonia Albina Maino ( Sonia Gandhi) in London and got married to her.

He was an introvert and shy people. He was an art lover had a keen interest in music and painting but his biggest dream to become pilot, therefore, he went to Delhi and took training and started working in Indian Airlines in 1970. He was not interested in politics, but when his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi died in a plane crash on 23 June 1980, he had joined politics and contested election from his brother's seat Amethi and entered Lok Shaba in 1981.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguard on 31 October 1984. Congress contested the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi and the Congress got 404 out of 533 seats and thus he became the prime minister at the age of 40.

He has launched many schemes for the welfare of the people and he was nicknamed Mr. Clean because of his fight against corruption. He was assassinated on 21 May 1991 at Sriperumbudur.
