Death toll in Mumbai Dongri tragedy rises to 13

Mumbai: A major accident took place on Tuesday morning in Dongri area of Mumbai. The four-storey building collapsed. Relief and rescue operations are continuing on Wednesday. The death toll is steadily rising as the debris of the collapsed building in Dongri area continues to rise. Rescuers pulled out two more bodies from the debris on Wednesday, bringing the death toll from 11 to 13.

According to the NDRF, the deceased include 6 men, 4 women and 3 children. Nine people were injured in the incident, who have been sent to hospital for treatment, while more than 40 people are said to be trapped under the debris.

The rescue operation, which lasted for a day and night on Tuesday, continued on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred in the narrow lane causing difficulties for the rescuers. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also said that the state government will raise the medical expenses of the deceased beaming 5 lakh rupees each to the kin of those who lost their lives and 50 thousand rupees to the injured.
