New Delhi: The farmers' agitation in India was discussed in the UK Parliament on Monday regarding the new agricultural laws brought by the central government. The issue of the peasant movement was raised in the British Parliament with the signing of millions on a petition. India has expressed strict objection to this. The Indian High Commission in London has condemned the discussion between some MPs on an 'e-petition' on the issue of the right to protest peacefully and press freedom between the farmers' agitation against three laws in India.
The Indian High Commission issued a statement saying that there was a debate based on the wrong facts about the peasant movement. The High Commission on Monday evening condemned the debate in Britain's Parliament complex, saying false claims have been presented in this one-sided discussion. The High Commission said in a statement that it was a matter of regret that false claims were made without any sound basis in place of a balanced debate. It has raised questions over one of the world's largest democracies and its institutions.
A petition was put on the website of the British Parliament to debate the peasant movement, which was signed by more than one lakh people. This was the reason that the British Parliament had to debate this issue. At the same time, the High Commission made it clear that the world's media including the British are following the peasant movement in India, which shows that there is no pressure being put on the farmers.
