Declare ERCP a national project: CM Ashok Gehlot

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot demanded on Monday that the East Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) be declared a national project by the federal government.

He took to Twitter to say: "We plan to finish the ERCP project as soon as possible so that 13 districts in East Rajasthan have access to drinking and irrigation water. The state government has spent around Rs 1,000 crore on it so far, and this budget proposes Rs 9,600 crore." The project will take 15 years to complete due to the state government's limited resources, during which time the cost would rise. The work will be done sooner and at a lesser cost if the central government grants it national project status and offers a funding, he added.

"It is incomprehensible that if Rajasthan, a desert and water-scarce state, does not receive the stature of a national project, whose state will? This is the situation when the Jal Shakti Minister is a state official who does nothing to help the state" said Gehlot while adding a hashtag #ERCP_create national project.
