Srinagar: 14 months ago, an Indian Army jawan was kidnapped by suspected terrorists from Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir. There was no news of him since then and he was missing. In about 14 months, the young man's father searched for him, but there was no trace. However, father Manzoor Ahmed Wage has now come to know. In fact, last Wednesday, he came to know over the phone that a body had been found in a garden in Kulgam and it could probably belong to his son.

Let me tell you all that the name of this Indian Army jawan is Shakir Manzoor who was posted as a rifleman in the Territorial Army Unit at Balpora. On August 2, 2020, after an Eid feast at home, he disappeared and nothing was known about him. He was reportedly kidnapped by suspected terrorists on his way back to the camp where he was posted. On the same night, his burnt vehicle was found in a field in the Kulgam district, about 16 kilometres from his village. Seven days later, Shakir's clothes were found in a ditch 3 km from home, although Wage started looking for his son as there was no trace of his son's body.

Now, last Wednesday, Wage identified the body found in the Mohammadpora area of Kulgam district as Shakir. The body was reportedly recovered with a tracksuit and a talisman, which the family says was 'that of Shakir.' In fact, Shakir's younger brother Shan says, 'We are sure it is Shakir. He had an accident a few years ago and had stitches on his leg. Though the body was decomposed, the doctors at the hospital cleaned the leg of the body and saw the stitches. Police want to confirm the identity and the body has been kept in army custody overnight and will bury it tomorrow.
