New Delhi: Opposition is continuously attacking on the PM Modi led NDA government over the alleged scam in Rafale deal. Now, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday came down heavily on the Opposition, with particular aim at the Congress party, on the Rafale deal allegations.

Defence minister clarified that the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had responded to the then Defence Secretary’s letter stating “everything was alright”. She said, “The then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar ji replied to that Defence Ministry note saying ‘remain calm, nothing to worry, everything is going alright’. Attacking on oppoistion for continously attacking over Rafale deal , Defence minister said, Picking up the same issue over and over again is nothing but flogging a head horse,” Sitharaman adding that the newspaper resorted to “selective reporting” against the ethics of journalism.

What was not mentioned in the report published by The Hindu was Parrikar’s response, where he categorically tells the Defence Secretary that he was overreacting in his note dated 1 December 2015.

In response parrikar to  Kumar on 11 January 2016, Parrikar said, “It appears that PMO and French President office are monitoring the progress of the issue which was an outcome of the summit meeting. Para 5 appears to be an overreaction. Defence Secretary (G Mohan Kumar) may resolve the matter in consultation with Principal Secretary to PM.”
