New Delhi: The family of soldiers who died in the war are going to get a big relief soon. The government has accepted its long-pending demand. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal to increase the financial assistance given to the families of soldiers killed in the war from the current Rs 2 lakh to Rs eight lakh. Officials said on Saturday that this economic cooperation would be given under the Sainik Welfare Fund (ABCWF) created for the casualties of war.

At present, financial aid up to two lakh rupees is given to the soldiers falling under many other categories, besides those who are martyred in the war and who suffer 60 per cent or more disability. This assistance is given in addition to pension, army's collective insurance, army welfare fund and extra amount. A Defense Ministry spokesman said that the Defense Minister has given in-principle approval to increase the financial assistance to families of all categories of war casualties from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The Central Government has already approved the OneRank OnePension Plan.
