Srinagar: The state is in the news after the Central government abolished Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. Yesterday, the Supreme Court on Wednesday hearing the issue gave an important verdict. The Union Defence Minister has arrived in Ladakh for the first time after the removal of Section 370. He inaugurated the 26th Kisan-Jawan-Science Fair. On the other hand, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury has left for Srinagar after getting the green signal by the court. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed Yechury not to use his tour for political purposes.

The CPM leader Yechury will visit Kashmir on Thursday and meet his party aide and former MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and find out the health condition. Tarigami has been under house arrest since the removal of Article 370. Yechury has tried twice to go to Kashmir. Both the times, Yechury was returned from Srinagar airport. During the visit, CPI General Secretary D Raja and his delegation accompanied him.

The apex court on Wednesday allowed a law student of Jamia Milia Islamia University to go to visit her parents in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The court also directed the police to provide security to the student. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also asked student Mohammed Alim Syed to submit an affidavit after meeting his parents.

The bench told senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, if the Jamia student wants to go to Anantnag, she should be given a permission letter from the court within an hour. The ban on mobile calling was lifted in five districts of Jammu division, Kishtwar, Ramban, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch late Wednesday night. Mobile services have been restored in 10 districts of the division.
