Government's big move on 'Make in India', defence equipment worth Rs.3,300 crore to be built

New Delhi: The central government has taken a big step towards its ambitious project Make in India. The Defence Ministry has cleared defence deals worth more than Rs 3,300 crore for the Indian Army yesterday i.e. on Monday. This includes the Made in India anti-tank guided missiles, which are capable of destroying enemy tanks. The Defence Acquisition Council met under the chairmanship of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

In this meeting, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India, three projects for the design, development and manufacture of defence equipment were approved by private companies in India. These projects include the construction of auxiliary power units (Auxiliary Power Units) for the third generation anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), T-72 and T-90 tanks. The third project is to install electronic warfare systems for mountain and altitude areas.

The government said that the Defense Research and Development Organization will design and develop the electronic warfare system. With this, DRDO will also be a partner in its production. The third generation anti-tank guided missile will assist the security forces in advancing in times of war. According to an official release, both projects under the Make-II category will be taken forward and indigenous research and development will be promoted in the private sector. The Ministry of Defence has said that for the first time complex military equipment will be designed, developed and manufactured by Indian private industry.
