Defending champions India are also set to face an upset at the hands of Japan in the second pool A match of the Women's Asia Cup hockey tournament. India lost 0-2 to Asian Games gold medallist Japan in the match played here on Sunday. Japan has surprised the Indians with goals from Naga Yuri (second minute) and Saki Tanaka (42nd minute).

The Indian players found it costly to get off to a slow start in the match as Japan also took the lead with a goal from Nagai Yuri in the second minute. After trailing by one goal, the Indian players were aggressive and got 2 penalty corners in the first quarter but failed to convert both of them into goals. Japan then strengthened their defence and prevented the Indian team from scoring even after creating chances.

Japan then scored their second goal in the 42nd minute to completely surprise the Indian team. The Indian team then played aggressively and again got 2 penalty corners but the players failed completely to convert both of them into goals this time too. Japan now top Pool A by winning both of the two matches, while India has finished second after registering a 9-0 win over Malaysia in their first match. India's next pool match is scheduled to be played in Singapore on Monday. The top two teams from both pools are set to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
