Berlin: Boris Pistorius, the German defence minister, asserted on Monday that the army of his country isn't ready to defend it from external military aggression. During a discussion with other Social Democratic Party members, the minister said those things (SPD).

Pistorius claimed, "We have no armed forces that are capable of defending [the country], that is, capable of defending [it] against an offensive, brutally waged aggressive war.

The minister claimed that as a result of decades of neglect from the federal government, the Bundeswehr is understaffed and underequipped. In order to meet NATO standards, Pistorius continued, Germany would need to significantly increase its military spending.

The commander and highest ranking officer of the German army, Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, stated to the DPA press agency on Sunday that the €100 billion previously pledged by Chancellor Olaf Scholz would not be sufficient to prepare the nation's armed forces for combat. "The army that I have the duty to lead is more or less bare," he continued.

Colonel Andre Wustner, the head of the German Armed Forces Association, made additional comments about the Bundeswehr's lack of combat readiness when he stated in an interview with Bild on Sunday that "only 30% of the approximately 300 Leopard 2 tanks in stock are currently operational."

Germany has been generously supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia despite this assessment, occasionally at the expense of its own defence capabilities.

The government transferred to Ukraine two cutting-edge air defence systems that were intended to defend the German capital, according to Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, the top military contractor in the nation, who was speaking on the Pioneer podcast on Tuesday.

Germans have also expressed their disapproval of Berlin's ongoing weapon shipments to Ukraine. The Left Party's Die Linke called for Scholz to stop arming Kiev at a rally on Saturday that, according to the organisers, drew about 50,000 people.

Moscow has frequently expressed its opinion regarding the transfer of Western weapons to Kiev. In a February interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov predicted that if Kiev receives longer-range weapons, Ukrainian forces will be forced to retreat even further from Russian territory.
