New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has dissolved the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) from today (October 1). Now the question arises: What will happen to the thousands of employees working in it? So the government has made arrangements for this too. In fact, the Ordinand Factory Board's assets, its employees and management have been divided into 7 newly established Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSU). OFB was a subordinate unit of the Ministry of Defence and supplied vital weapons and ammunition to the three armed forces and paramilitary forces.

At the same time, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also made it clear that about 70,000 employees of the ordnance factory board are being shifted to these new PSUs, but there will be no revision in their service conditions. Under the 'Self-Reliant India' package, the Central Government announced on May 16 last year that it would improve autonomy, accountability and efficiency in ordnance supply by the corporatization of OFB.

The ministry of defence's proposal to restructure this unit, which is more than 200 years old, was pending for a long time. In a September 28 order, the Ministry of Defence said, "The Government of India has decided to hand over the management, control, functioning and maintenance of these 41 production units and identified non-production units to 7 government companies with effect from October 1, 2021. These 7 companies are entirely owned by the Government of India.''
