New Delhi: Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting has given initial approval for defence procurement proposals worth Rs 13,165 crores for modernization and operational requirements of the forces. Out of this, 87 per cent i.e. about Rs 11,486 crores will be procured from local sources. It was given the green signal in a meeting held on Wednesday under the leadership of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The military equipment that has been approved for procurement includes ammunition for 25 Modern Light Helicopters (ALH) and rockets.
The aircraft will be manufactured indigenously by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the Buy Indian category. In a statement issued by the Defense Ministry, it has also been approved for domestic procurement of ammunition worth Rs 4,962 crores for the rockets. The ministry said the cost of purchasing the helicopter has been estimated at Rs 3,850 crores. At the same time, Rs 4,962 crores will be spent to buy a consignment of rocket ammunition.
The Defense Ministry said that the DAC has accorded imperative approval for capital procurement proposals of approximately Rs 13,165 crores for operational requirements and modernization of the Indian Armed Forces. Of the total sanctioned amount, Rs 11,486 crores (87 per cent) is to be procured from domestic sources. Along with this, the DAC also approved some amendments to the Defense Procurement Procedure 2020, the ministry said.
