As Defence Minister Rajnath Singh prepares for his visit to the United States, the Pentagon has underscored the significant importance of the India-US relationship. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is set to welcome Singh to the Pentagon on August 23. The meeting will focus on enhancing the bilateral and regional ties between the two largest democracies in the world.
Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh emphasized, "The relationship with India remains of great importance, not only bilaterally but also to the Indo-Pacific region. We will provide more details as the visit approaches."
While specifics about the meeting's agenda were not disclosed, the Pentagon assured that a detailed report would follow the discussions. Singh highlighted the robust military collaboration between the two nations, noting that US Defense Secretary Austin's previous visit to India underscored the strength of their military ties.
Singh added, "India plays a crucial role in the Indo-Pacific strategy and our National Defense Strategy (NDS), which is focused on addressing the pacing challenge posed by China. Our military-to-military relationship with India is strong and continues to grow."
Rajnath Singh's upcoming visit marks the first high-level visit by an Indian cabinet minister to the United States since Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his third term in June.
