New Delhi: Marriage is considered a big event in India. Where people spend a lot of money according to their earnings. It is also a status symbol in the society. That is something that people take care of. But often there is a voice about this profligate spending. The wastage of food in such marriages is a big worry. Because a large population of this country is unable to eat even two meals a day. The Supreme Court on Monday summoned the Chief Secretary of Delhi in the same case.

He asked what is the policy on unnecessary expenditure, wastage of food, water management at wedding ceremonies in the capital's hotels, farmhouses and residential areas. A bench of justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta issued the direction when the Delhi government informed that they have finalised the policy and now it is to be notified by the Delhi Development Authority.

The bench asked the DDA counsel how long it would take to notify the policy. In response, the woman lawyer said, she will come out with directions in this regard. However, the policy has not yet been handed over to the DDA. The Delhi government had told the apex court that there was a huge shortage of venues for organising weddings and social gatherings in Delhi. Under the new policy, allowing such events in hotels, farmhouses and low-density residential areas will ease the hardship faced by the people. According to the new policy, the band is also banned after 10 p.m.
