NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, September 10,  lauded the Aam Admi Party-led Punjab government for regularising 8,736 school teachers, and urged all state governments to do the same.

Kejriwal said the Delhi government had also brought in a Bill in the Assembly to regularise guest teachers in New Delhi but the Central government did not approve it. He said,  all contractual government employees would be regularised in the states where the Aam Admi Party comes to power. All the states and the Centre should also do this, Kejriwal added.

"Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regularised the employment of 8,736 teachers at a time when fewer permanent government posts are being created and more temporary workers are being engaged. This will serve as an example for other people as well "said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal emphasized that both guest and regular teachers contributed to the educational revolution in Delhi and disputed the idea that permanent staff were shirkers.

"In Delhi's hospitals and mohalla clinics, our regular healthcare staff performed miracles. We were able to revolutionize education and healthcare thanks to these regular teachers and physicians in Delhi "he said.

The Delhi CM criticized the contractual employment structure as "very exploitative" and questioned why states and the federal government were eliminating government positions while the economy was expanding.

From the Aam Aadmi Party's perspective, I can tell you that we will regularise temporary employees wherever our governments are created. "I urge all state governments to regularise the services of their temporary employees," Kejriwal said.
