New Delhi: The bail plea of Sharjeel Imam, a former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, one of the main conspirators in the anti-Hindu riots, which began in the name of protests against the Civil Amendment Act (CAA), was opposed by special public prosecutor Amit Prasad during the hearing on Thursday (February 10). Prasad argued in the court that during the Shaheen Bagh  protest, Sharjeel Imam had made a provocative speech saying that this is the trailer now, the film is yet to come."

Apart from Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, the court was hearing the bail plea of 5 other accused. SPP Prasad also presented a chat of the conversation between Sharjeel Imam and his brother Muzammil during this period. He told that in the chat, Sharjeel Imam has said that we are both the masterminds' (of Shaheen Bagh). On this, Sharjeel's lawyer argued that the arrest of his client was not for conspiracy, but for the speech made before the arrest. On this, Amit Prasad said that this type of argument is an argument given in the wrong direction. Giving the example of cricket, he said that every player has his own importance when a team plays. If the wicket of the opening batsman falls during batting, it does not mean that the team has given up its intention to win the game.

Meanwhile, government pleader Prasad read out the charge sheet and told the court that the conspirators wanted to overthrow the legally elected government and spread chaos and incite violence for it. Amit Prasad further said, "I have already shown what instructions Umar Khalid gave to Sharjeel Imam and then to Gulfisha. The conspiracy is clear in the instructions given in the meeting.'' Prasad told the court that WhatsApp groups like 'Khidmat', 'Save the Constitution' were created for this.

Speaking against the bail plea, he further said that Sharjeel Imam also encouraged the members of 'MSJ' to participate by sending a message regarding a gathering in the basement of Jangpura Extension. Sharjeel Imam had also met the MSJ core committee on the morning of 15 December 2019 at a Dhaba in JNU to discuss his future plans. He also took the help of PFI, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and other groups. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court has reserved its verdict in the matter of granting bail to Sharjeel Imam, accused of the 2020 Delhi riots.

What was the statement of Sharjeel Imam:-

Although Sharjeel Imam's speech is quite long, but here we are putting that part in front of the readers, which says provocative and damaging the integrity of the country. In the anti-CAA programme, Sharjeel had said that the time has come for us to speak to non-Muslims that if they are our sympathizers, they should come and stand on our terms. If they don't stand on our terms, they're not our sympathizers. If we have 5 lakh people organized by us, we can permanently cut off the North-East from Hindustan. If not permanently, Assam can be divided from Hindustan for at least one-and-a-half months. Pour so much pus on the tracks, on the road that it took a month to remove them. If you want to go, go by the Air Force. ' The video can also be seen on YouTube.
