Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order on the bail plea of Mohammed Zubair,  Alt News co-founder, and  the police application seeking his two week judicial custody in a case related to an “objectionable tweet” he had posted in 2018 against a Hindu deity.

Later in the day, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria is scheduled to issue a ruling on both applications.

Zubair was brought before the court earlier in the day by Delhi Police after his five-day solitary interrogation was over. Police claimed to the court that they did not need him for judicial custody questioning but nevertheless wanted his judicial custody.

After the police entered their plea, the accused's attorney, Vrinda Grover, sought for bail in court on the grounds that her client was no longer needed for the investigation and that "I" (Zubair) was not a terrorist who required security for my presence.

Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava also informed the court during the hearing that the police had brought new charges against Zubair under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (destruction of evidence), and section 35 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
