Delhi Court Sends Alt News Co-founder Md Zubair to 1-Day Police Custody

NEW DELHI: Mohammed Zubair, a co-founder of Alt News, has been put in one-day police remand in New Delhi after he allegedly offended a community's religious sensitivities on Monday.

Pratik Sinha, a co-founder of Alt News, was also there when Mohammed Zubair was detained today on suspicion of inciting hatred and insulting religion. Zubair was charged with these offences.

"The court denied Mohammed Zubair, a co-founder of Alt News for bail on the grounds that it "lacked validity." The court has approved Delhi Police's request for a one-day police remand "officials with the Delhi Police.

According to Delhi Police, he was charged with violating Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 153A (promotion of enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language).

Police said that a complaint was made against the co-founder due to a tweet sent by Mr. Zubair via Twitter. He was summoned for questioning today, and the Delhi Authorities Special Cell's IFSO team then reportedly arrested Mr. Zubair, according to the police.
