New Delhi: Three men were arrested in the national capital on Wednesday for allegedly defrauding consumers under the guise of extending their credit card limits. The accused was found with two laptops, 20 cellphones, one wireless router, 45 SIM cards, and six diaries, according to the police.

Prateek Bansal (23) and Kuldeep (26), both of Janakpuri, and Saurav Mishra (27), of Jaitpur, have been identified as the suspects, they added. A senior police officer said that the matter came to light after a victim filed a complaint on March 5 stating that the accused cheated him out of Rs 34,425 under the guise of extending his credit card limit.  According to the officer, the accused purported to be a bank employee. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)  southeast Esha Pandey said, that they examined the claimed bank account statements and found that the money was transferred to multiple accounts before being withdrawn from numerous ATMs.

Bansal and Kuldeep were apprehended after authorities found a contact centre in the Uttam Nagar neighbourhood. Mishra was apprehended at his home, said he DCP. During interrogation, the accused admitted to sending a false link to increase the credit card limit. According to investigators, they used to force people to click that link in order to obtain their credentials.
