NEW DELHI: Delhi Doctors' Protest Against Kolkata Rape Case Updates: Doctors in Delhi marked the fifth day of their indefinite strike on Friday, protesting the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The demonstration, which began inside hospitals, intensified as doctors gathered outside Nirman Bhawan. This government building, located near Parliament in Lutyens' Delhi, houses the Ministry of Health and other departments.

The protest saw resident doctors stationed on the road outside Nirman Bhawan, with a significant police presence and barricades set up on both sides. The doctors, holding posters and banners, chanted slogans such as 'We want justice', 'No safety, no duty', and 'Awaz do, hum ek hain' to voice their demands for enhanced safety measures.

On the eve of Independence Day, representatives from various resident doctors' associations (RDAs), including AIIMS, SIH, MAMC, RML, LHMC, UCMS, and DDU, convened a meeting and decided to escalate their protest. They unanimously agreed on a unified action plan, calling for the implementation of a central protection Act to safeguard healthcare workers nationwide.

During the protest, six members of the delegation entered Nirman Bhawan to engage with government officials, while the remaining doctors continued their demonstration on the road. The RDAs resolved to suspend all elective services across Delhi and potentially nationwide, though essential emergency services, including ICUs and emergency operation theatres, continued without interruption.

The RDAs underscored that their protest aimed not only at seeking justice but also at urging the implementation of measures to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of healthcare professionals on the frontlines.
