New Delhi: The Delhi government has signed two agreements with the Central government's subsidiary to speed up the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) in the national capital. While one of these agreements will pave the way for setting up more charging and battery swapping stations at bus depots, the second agreement will provide relief from loan interest to those buying electric autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and vehicles. Yes, talking about this, the officials have said that the Transport Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited, to set up charging and battery swapping stations at 14 selected depots.

At the same time, CESL will procure, establish, operate and maintain charging units and related infrastructure. The fee for use of the site will be paid by CESL to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) at the rate of Rs 1 per kW per month. 2,000/- per ECS per month if it needs more than three ECS (equivalent car space). It is said that initially, the contract period will be 10 years, and as per the MoU, CESL will start work immediately and the installation of all stations will be completed in the next 4 months.

Where will the charging stations be located- Wherever the charging stations will be installed, in that list, Rani Kheda-I, Rani Kheda-II, Rani Kheda-III, Rajghat, Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Bawana Sector-1, Bawana Sector-5, Kanjhawala, Kair, Dhichaon Kalan. Apart from this, space has been identified jointly by Transport Department and EESL at Dwarka Sector-22, Revla Khanpur and Chhatarpur for the setting up of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Battery Swapping Stations in the premises of various DTC Cluster Bus Depots. Each of the approximately 14 locations will have 6 charging points, out of which 3 points will be for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, while 3 points will be for 4 wheelers.

The contract is said to have been signed for 10 years and all stations will be ready in the next four months. Each location will have six charging points with three for two-wheelers and three-wheelers and three for four-wheelers. The location and real-time availability status will be available on the Delhi government's One Delhi app.

Let me tell you that Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot, who was present at the event today, said, "Under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi is moving fast on the path of converting non-electric vehicles into electric vehicles across the country. Along with the partnership with CESL, we are happy to announce that the Government has decided to use the land available at the depot to enhance and improve charging infrastructure and EV ecosystem in Delhi. We are also looking for various non-polluting means to power these charging stations to effectively reduce carbon footprint."

5% interest subsidy on loans- Along with other MoUs, the government will provide a 5% interest subsidy on loans on purchase of selected category of EV. Officials say Delhi has become the first state to provide easy financing for electric vehicles. On the other hand, Delhi's transport department said in a statement that the five per cent interest subvention on loans for the purchase of special category electric vehicles will be in addition to the Rs 30,000 purchase incentive and Rs 7,500 as junk incentive under the Delhi EV (Electric Vehicle) policy. Not only this but it has also been said that through this scheme, electric three-wheelers and electric light commercial vehicles will be able to get an additional benefit of up to Rs 25,000.
