NEW DELHI: The Delhi government inducted two robots into the city's firefighting fleet on Friday in an effort to reform the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

According to the government, these remote-controlled firefighting robots will have better access to areas and will be able to put out flames in small streets, warehouses, factories, basements, stairs, and forests. They can even put out fires in oil and chemical tankers, according to the report.

Home Minister Satyendar Jain said that the entrance of robots into Delhi's fire department will better equip firemen in managing complex fire-related occurrences with relative ease, citing an increase in incidences of large-scale fire accidents every year during the summer season.

The robots can also release high water pressure at a rate of 2,400 litres per minute, the minister said. The volume of water spray will be controlled by a wireless remote attached to the robots, allowing fire officials to douse fires in areas where firemen are unable to reach.

"For the first time, such remote-controlled robots capable of controlling fire have been brought into the country." The Delhi government has so far enrolled two of these robots; if the trial is successful, more will be added to the fleet," the Minister added.
