New Delhi: A fire broke out in a transformer in Delhi's bijwasan area of The Sh's capital, causing a gas cylinder explosion and killing six members of the same family in the early hours of Thursday. Four of the dead include minors. Officials said they had received information about the fire in a transformer in Valmiki Colony at 12.30 pm after which four fire tenders rushed to the spot.

Police later received information about the explosion in the cylinder in Valmiki Colony. According to Delhi Police, the slums were located in the field in Bijwasan area of southwest Delhi, leaving the family members trapped in the fire. When police reached the spot after receiving information about the fire in the slum, they rushed the scorched people to the hospital. Officials said the transformer caught fire and its flames quickly spread to two nearby slums causing an explosion in the LPG cylinder.

A senior police official said kamlesh, 37, his 32-year-old wife Budhani, their two daughters, 16 and 12, and two sons, six and three, were killed in the cylinder explosion. He said the policemen along with fire officials fished out the bodies and rushed them to Safdarjung Hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law.
