New Delhi: If you do not have a Valid Pollution Control (PUC) certificate, then taking the road with a car may cost you dearly. Actually, you may have to pay a fine of up to 10 thousand for driving without a PUC. The Transport Department of Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government has launched a special campaign against polluting vehicles. Under this campaign, challans were cut for many vehicles which did not have valid PUC certificate.

A Transport Department official told a private news channel, 'We have deployed 40 teams in Delhi, which will see the PUC certificate and challan the polluting vehicles. These teams will focus on 13 pollution hotspots identified by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. These include Anand Vihar, RK Puram, Jahangirpuri, Vivek Vihar, Mayapuri and other places. He further said that at these hotspots the joint teams of our enforcement team, DPCC officials and traffic policemen of Delhi are also taking samples of diesel and petrol from people's vehicles to check adulteration and impurities.

Under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, which came into force in Delhi from September 1, 2019, the fine of Rs 1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid PUC certificate was increased to Rs 10,000. Due to a ten-fold increase in fines, there was a sudden rush of traffic in nearly 1,000 PUC centers in Delhi and the Transport Department issued 14 lakh PUC certificates in that one month.
