New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered private and government schools to provide equipment and internet packages to poor children for online classes. The court said that the lack of such facilities is a hindrance for children to get basic education. A Bench of Justices Manmohan and Justice Sanjeev Narula said that non-financed private schools are eligible to receive reimbursement from the state under the Right to Education Act-2009 for rational cost incurred on purchasing equipment and internet packages, even if the state government provides this facility to it. Does not provide students. ''
The court has asked to constitute a three-member committee to identify the poor and deprived students and for the smooth process of supplying equipment to them. The committee shall consist of the Education Secretary or his representative of the Central Government, the Education Secretary or representative of the Government of Delhi and the representative of private schools. The court has also said that the committee will also formulate Standard Operating Procedure (HOP) to identify the standard of equipment and internet packages to be given to poor and disadvantaged students.
The court further said that this would ensure uniformity in the equipment and internet packages used by all poor and disadvantaged students. The Delhi High Court has given this decision while hearing a PIL by the NGO 'Justice for All'.
