Delhi HC transfers to CBI the investigation into the alleged death of Ankit Gujjar

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday, September 8,   transferred the probe into 29-year-old Tihar Jail inmate, Ankit Gujjar's alleged murder inside the jail premises, from Delhi Police to CBI.

The High court sought a status report from the central agency before the next date of hearing on October 28. The judge stated that she has passed directions to the Director-General of Prisons with respect to “the laxity in providing proper treatment” and facilitating police probe. A Detailed copy of the order is awaited. Gujjar, 29, was found dead inside his cell in Tihar jail on August 4.

The Court also added that it has issued directions to Director General of Prisons on the issue of laxity in not providing proper treatment on time and also for making necessary rules and regulations so that when CCTV cameras are not working inside jail premises, officers don't take advantage of the same. The matter will now be considered on October 28.

The plea moved by Ankit's mother, sister and brother through Advocates Mehmood Pracha and Shariq Nisar, alleged that Ankit was being harassed by jail officials and was in fact murdered as a part of a pre-planned conspiracy.
