New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Central Government to respond to the demand to recognize gay marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act and the Special Marriage Act. The Delhi High Court has given this order considering the PILs filed on this demand.

A bench of Justices Rajiv Sahay and Law and Asha Menon issued notice to the government directing them to file an affidavit within 4 weeks and reply. The petitioner has stated in the petition that even after the Supreme Court's decision to keep homosexual relations out of the guilt category, marriages between gay couples are not possible. Even before this, the Delhi High Court on October 14 sought the reply from the Modi government of the Center on the petition filed by two women demanding permission to marry under the Special Marriage Act.
