New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought a response from the Centre and the National Medical Commission on a plea seeking permission to allow more than 140 medical students studying in China to undergo practical training in India. All of them have not been able to return to their university due to travel restrictions.
A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh sent notices to the Law and Justice Ministry, Ministry of External Affairs, Health Ministry as well as the Commission on the plea. Seeking to look into the matter, the petition said the petitioners were students and not terrorists. The 147 petitioners, who are medical students at Ningbo University in China, informed the court that they had returned to India in early 2020 but have not been able to return since then as China is not issuing student visas.
He stressed that China has no plans to take back Indian students at least till September. Indian authorities have notified some rules which force Indian students studying in foreign universities to take full courses, training and internships/clerkships from their own foreign medical institutions.
