New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi has suffered a major setback from the High Court. The AAP government's doorstep ration delivery scheme has been stayed by the High Court. Earlier, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had also asked the Kejriwal government to send a proposal to the Centre for its door-to-door delivery of ration, which was earlier granted conditional permission by the Delhi High Court in October last year to implement the door-step delivery scheme of ration in Delhi.

There was a long-standing tussle between the Kejriwal government and the Lieutenant Governor over the doorstep delivery scheme of rations. While the Kejriwal government was demanding the implementation of the doorstep delivery scheme of ration, the LG and the central government were against it. In fact, the Delhi High Court had allowed the Delhi government to deliver rations to people at home. The high court had said that there should not be a shortage of rations in shops at reasonable rates. The court had directed the Delhi government to furnish details of cardholders to all fair price shops who have opted to get rations at home.

The high court had said that after this, fair price shopkeepers will not be required to supply rations to those beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS). Those who have opted to get ration at home. In such a situation, there will be no need to send ration of such people to these shops. A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh said, "Therefore, we have modified our order dated March 22, 2021.''
