New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken to the streets against the new excise policy of Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government. The BJP today staged a traffic jam against the Kejriwal government's new liquor policy. On NH-24, the BJP's traffic jam led to a huge jam in Laxmi Nagar, South Delhi. In fact, the BJP says that the Kejriwal government had promised to open 500 schools, but opened 1000 new liquor contracts.

It may be recalled that in the recent past, a new excise policy has been introduced by the Delhi Government under which about 849 new liquor shops are being opened. Under the new policy, there will be 3 new liquor shops in each ward, which the BJP has been consistently opposing the Kejriwal government. The BJP on Monday appealed for the traffic jams in every district of Delhi, leading to heavy jams till ITO Laxmi Nagar Vikas Marg. However, several BJP leaders have been taken into custody by the police shortly after the traffic jam.

On this protest, the BJP has said that if the new shops being opened under the new liquor policy are in the non-confirmation area, master plan 2021, violate corporation rules or are next to schools and shrines etc., all of them will be sealed with immediate effect. Moreover, the BJP will lodge its protest against the Kejriwal government's new excise policy through the corporation's administration or through a mass agitation.
