New Delhi: The Delhi Road Safety Summit 2021 was organized by the Transport Department in the Union Territory of Delhi on Friday. It was attended by road safety lead agency, Delhi Traffic Police, IIT Delhi as well as international experts. The summit discussed planning for safe travel on Delhi roads. At the same time, the Kejriwal government has signed an important agreement with IIT Delhi in view of road safety.
The Transport Department of the Government of Delhi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) of the Indian Institute of Technology- Delhi (IIT-Delhi) to work on road safety and related policies. The partnership will aim to identify as many black spots as possible, integrate with road accident data analysis, implementation of integrated road accident database (IRAD). Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot also spoke of the campaign being run on social media to create awareness about the dangers of speeding, proper use of helmets, use of seat belts and drunken driving.
Our vision is to reduce the number of accidents in Delhi, Gehlot said. It has always been our endeavour to allow only an expert driver to drive on Delhi roads. He claimed that Delhi is the first state where there are fully automated driving test tracks and also has a strong enforcement wing with more than 70 vehicles. Very soon schools and colleges will also be brought along in this campaign. Six such sites have already been identified where tracks will be set up for driving tests.
