New Delhi: The proposal by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to give Ministers Kailash Gahlot and Rajkumar Anand new departments was accepted on Wednesday by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

Gahlot and Anand would each receive eight ministries, according to a proposal provided by Kejriwal. As minister Satyendar Jain and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia left their respective posts in the cabinet, the action became necessary. Although Jain was detained on May 30 of last year in connection with a money laundering case and is now being held in Tihar Prison, Sisodia was detained on February 26 in connection with the liquor policy scam case.

Together with the departments that the two ministers already oversee, Kejriwal has given both of them responsibility for important portfolios including Home, Health, and Education.

Gahlot has been assigned responsibility for the Finance, Planning, Public Works Department, Power, Home, Urban Development, Irrigation and Flood Control, and Water departments in addition to the ones he now holds, according to a notification from the Delhi government.

Sisodia's former portfolios of Education, Land and Building, Vigilance, Services, Tourism, Art, Culture & Language, Labor, Employment, Health (formerly held by Jain, then by Sisodia after Jain's arrest), and Industries have been given to Anand.

The chief minister of Delhi, Kejriwal, has sent the names of Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to be elevated as ministers, sources said today. This is part of a significant reorganisation of the Delhi cabinet that was made necessary by the resignations of Sisodia and Satyendar Jain.

The CBI had already detained Sisodia in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. In connection with an ongoing inquiry into alleged anomalies in the formulation and application of the new excise policy of the Delhi government, Sisodia was detained on Sunday.
