New Delhi: Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal's troubles seem to be increasing. After the bus, liquor and education scam, Kejriwal has now been accused of stamp duty evasion. Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena has ordered an inquiry against CM Kejriwal in this case.

In fact, Kejriwal is accused of selling three plots in Bhiwani, Haryana, for Rs 4.54 crore, the price of which he has underestimated. Kejriwal has shown the total value of these plots on documents to be just Rs 72.72 lakh. After receiving the complaint, LG Vivek Saxena has written a letter to the Chief Secretary asking for an inquiry. Significantly, a few days ago, the CBI raided the premises of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia over the liquor scam. After this, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh from AAP held a press conference on Wednesday (7 September 2022) and accused the Lieutenant Governor of corruption.

The complaint stated that Chief Minister Kejriwal had sold his plots on February 15, 2021, through his wife Sunita, at a market price of Rs 45,000 per square yard. At the same time, its price on documents has been reported to be just 8,300 per square yard. The complaint states that "Two of these properties were in the name of Arvind Kejriwal himself, while the third property was registered in the name of his father Govind Ram." The complainant says that by showing rates below the market value, Chief Minister Kejriwal not only siphoned off Rs 25.93 lakh in stamp duty but also siphoned off Rs 76.4 lakh as capital gains tax.

The complainant says that CM Kejriwal has shown on the documents to sell a plot of 340 square yards at the rate of 8,300 square yards for Rs 24.48 lakh, 416 square yards for Rs 30 lakh and 254 square yards for Rs 18.24 lakh. The complainant says that the market value of these plots is very high and he had sold it for 45,000 square yards. For these three plots, he had paid stamp duty of Rs 1,41,200, Rs 1,73,700 and Rs 1,12,500. Now after the LG's order, there is to be an investigation against Kejriwal in this matter, now it will be interesting to see whether Kejriwal proves his innocence while answering the allegations against him or else he uses pressure politics by accusing LG himself.
