New Delhi: The journey from the national capital to Meerut is going to be easier today. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be opened to the public from today. So far, Saharanpur Dehradun had to go through jam-packed routes like Modi Nagar, Muradnagar to go to Uttarakhand. Though the expressway was to be opened on March 31, the date of opening of the expressway was extended by one day due to some technical constraints.

The attempt to connect western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with Delhi started in 2008. The work of Delhi-Meerut Expressway was started rapidly in 2014. In 2015, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation of the project. The lockdown caused by the coronavirus delayed the completion of the project by one year but is now ready for the public.

A total of 150 CCTV cameras have been installed on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to keep an eye on the speed of vehicles and the number plates of the moving vehicles. With the help of these, vehicles will be monitored at every moment. NHAI will keep an eye on the speed of the vehicle from the passenger inside the vehicle.
