Delhi Metro to introduce bycycles, e-scooters at five stations

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has planned to extend public bicycle sharing and e-scooters services at other stations which is an eco-friendly move. The Delhi Metro officials believe that if the project takes off successful, it would help in reducing dependence on automobiles and thereby tackling pollution.

As per the report in Times of India, the DMRC plans to open cycle stands at its stations with either fully automated or dockless cycle sharing system. In order to unlock the bicycles at metro stations, the customers users will be required to generate QR code.

Delhi Metro already runs bicycle-sharing services at 19  stations. The services will be managed by private operators, while the municipal corporation will provide space and  facility to charge e-scooters. As per the report, DMRC is introducing e-scooters service at Vishwavidyalaya Metro station, which already has a cycle-sharing service. The move is aimed at stations which witness huge footfalls of young commuters. These stations include  Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Mandi House.

Talking about the cost, for e-scooter services, the users are expected to pay Re 1 per kilometre, compared to cheap bicycle fare.
