Ahead of the festival, concerns are raised over the spread of coronavirus infection owing to a lack of Covid-appropriate behavior during the holiday season. The careless behavior of people prompted the Delhi Police to advise devotees not to attend temples during the Janmashtami festival since DDMA norms ban religious gatherings.

RP Meena, DCP South-East Delhi, stated that anyone who breaks the Covid-19 rules will face consequences. “On Janamashtami, devotees will not be allowed to visit temples since DDMA laws restrict religious gatherings. We will encourage individuals to celebrate it at home rather than at temples. Those who break the rules will face consequences, according to the DCP. All social, political, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, festival-related meetings and congregations are forbidden in the national capital, according to the DDMA standards. Meanwhile, the Centre has advised all states and union territories to avoid big crowds and to take proactive steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said the general pandemic situation now looks to be mostly stable at the national level, save for the localized spread reported in a few states, after extending the existing Covid-19 guidelines for another month until September 30. The home secretary also encouraged them to take appropriate precautions to avoid mass gatherings over the upcoming holiday season, including imposing local limits if necessary. Kejriwal believes that in all crowded locations, covid-appropriate behavior should be firmly enforced.

The national capital, which is the first to implement such a strategy, has established unique rules for four levels, each of which is denoted by a different color code. During the second wave of coronavirus in April and May, the city saw an extraordinary spike in cases and deaths. However, during the last few weeks, the situation appears to have improved.
