NEW DELHI: In the latest action plan against the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), the Delhi Police have detained two of its active members from the Khajuri Khas area in Delhi. The accused were identified as Mohammed Samoon and Israr Ali.

A new  FIR against them was filed under sections 153-A of the Indian Penal Code read with sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activity Prevention Act.

In this regard, Inspector Radhey Shyam had filed a complaint. Udayveer Singh, the assistant commissioner of police, will now look into the situation. The police said, "We have detained the members of the prohibited organisation and are investigating the case."

Four PFI members were recently detained following the filing of an FIR with the Shaheen Bagh Police Station.
The Popular Front of India (PFI) and its eight affiliates were labelled as "unlawful association" for five years by the Ministry of Home Affairs on September 28 in accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. This restriction was implemented immediately after the PFI was the target of a coordinated national crackdown by the NIA, ED, and several state police forces.

For its suspected involvement in anti-CAA rallies in some of the states, the PFI was the subject of a ban request from the Uttar Pradesh government in 2019. The PFI was prohibited by the central government due to a number of terrorism-related charges, including funding and training for terrorism. As a result, hundreds of its leaders have been detained in recent days.

The Union government decided to outlaw the group for a number of reasons, including the PFI's attempts to radicalise weak members of a community, its connections to other terrorist groups like ISIS, and its involvement in high-profile violent incidents that put India's internal security at risk.
