'Section 144 is in force, strict action will be taken..,' DP's letter to Congress

New Delhi: The Congress is set to hold a nationwide protest on Friday (August 5) over rising inflation, unemployment and GST imposed on essential commodities in the country. Congress MPs will march from Parliament House to Rashtrapati Bhavan at 11 am. At around 10 am, senior party leaders and workers will march from the Congress headquarters and surround the Prime Minister's residence. The Delhi Police has written a letter to senior party leader and Rajya Sabha member  KC Venugopal in this regard.

The police have written to him informing them that Section 144 is in force in the entire New Delhi area except for Jantar Mantar. Therefore, no demonstration of any kind can be allowed. The Delhi Police has said that strict legal action will be taken against those violating Section 144. The DCP of the New Delhi area has written to the Congress leader twice on August 2 and 4, warning them.

According to sources, the Delhi Police has also received some inputs from the intelligence department regarding the protests in the New Delhi area. Due to this, the security arrangements have been tightened on Friday. Security has been beefed up, especially around the Prime Minister's residence and the house of all VVIPs. At the same time, for the last few days, Congress has been attacking the central government over price rise. Congress party MPs are continuously protesting inside and outside Parliament.
