New Delhi: In March 2020, Rubina Bano, in a complaint to the local police station, accused local policemen of committing violence against women on February 24 at a peaceful protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at the behest of BJP leader Kapil Mishra. Rubina claimed that supporters of BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht were also among the rioters.

Rubina told the media since then that she and her family are forced to live in fear. Rubina, who was three months pregnant during the riots, said that she was present during a protest against CAA in Delhi's Chandbagh area in February. She was then hit by policemen with the butt of a rifle and forcefully ransacked from the demonstration site. Delhi Police issued a public statement in June saying that the people who complained against the police were actually involved in illegal activities themselves. Rubina says "strangers started appearing outside her house in July".

On August 7, when the case was heard, Rubina had demanded protection from the High Court. Subsequently, on 22 August last week, two policemen in plainclothes arrived at her house to give notice to Rubina's minor son and her nephew for questioning in the riots case. Police showed her a picture of her son and her cousin, taken from a CCTV camera outside the house. Rubina says that the two children were playing cricket outside the house when the riots took place.
