New Delhi: Tahir Hussain, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, played a key role during the 2020 Riots in Delhi. Now, a Delhi court has acquitted three accused in a riot case. Among them is Tahir Hussain's brother Shah Alam. Rashid Saifi and Shadab have also been acquitted. All three have been acquitted from case no. 93/2020. Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav, who is hearing the case in the Special Court, also expressed displeasure over the police investigation into the riots.

Acquitting the three accused for lack of evidence, the court said the failure will definitely hurt the keepers of democracy. The court said, "When history sees the worst communal riots since partition in Delhi, the failure of the investigating agency to conduct a proper investigation using new scientific methods will certainly hurt the keepers of democracy.'' The court slammed the police saying that the kind of investigation conducted in the case clearly shows the lack of monitoring by senior officers. The investigating agency has only tried to blindfold the court and nothing else. The court said that the police continued to solve the case by filing charge sheets without eyewitnesses, real accused and technical evidence.

The court said, "The court does not allow unthinking rounds in the corridors of the judicial system in such cases. When the case is an open and shut case, it is just a precious time of the court. Out of the acquitted accused, Alam works as a carpenter, Saifi is an accountant by job and Shadab by profession in a private institution. Alam is currently charged in 9 cases, while Rashid and Shadab are facing 7-7 cases. About 750 cases were registered in the North-East Delhi riots. Most of these cases are with this court. About 150 of them have been handed over to the sessions court so far. So far, charges have been framed in only 35 cases. Suspended AAP councilor Tahir Hussain is accused of murdering IB officer Ankit Sharma, who was killed by dripping a knife 400 times. He is also accused of communally inciting the mob.
