New Delhi: Delhi University professor Ratan Lal was granted bail by the Tis Hazari Court on Saturday. The history professor was arrested on Friday after he made derogatory remarks about the Shivling found at The Vajukhana in Gyanvapi. The court granted bail to Ratan Lal on a personal bond of Rs 50,000.

A complaint against Prof. Dr Ratan Lal was filed by Supreme Court advocate Vineet Jindal with the Delhi Police. According to information, a case under sections 153A and 295A was registered against Professor Ratan Lal at The Morris Nagar Cyber Cell police station in north Delhi.  A complaint was lodged against Ratan Lal for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. DU left-wing students had also staged a protest outside the Morris Nagar cyber police station on Friday night demanding the release of the professor.   

The survey was conducted on the order of the court of civil judge senior division in the disputed Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi. During this survey, it was claimed by the Hindu side that the Shivling was found in the Vajukhana of the mosque. On the same issue, Ratan Lal, who works as an associate professor of history at Delhi's Hindu College, shared a link on Facebook and wrote, "If this is a Shiva Linga,  it seems that perhaps Shiv ji was also circumcised. Along with this, Ratan Lal had also put a teasing emoji in his post.  After writing the silly post, Ratan Lal says, "I had shared my thoughts, maybe they don't know the difference between insulting God and having their views. If someone abuses Ratan Lal's parents and says that I put forward my views, would it be right?'' This is the question Ratan Lal should ask himself. When Kalicharan Maharaj can be jailed for his remarks on Gandhi Bapu, why shouldn't he be punished for insulting God by Ratan Lal?
