New Delhi: The country's capital, Delhi, was seen wrapped in fog on Wednesday morning. People appeared to burn bonfires to keep themselves warm because of the temperature fall. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the current temperature in the city is 9.8 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, "very dense" fog occurs when visibility is between 0 and 50 meters. In the case of "dense" fog, visibility remains between 51 and 200 meters, "medium" 201 and 500 meters, and "shallow" 501 and 1,000 meters. According to the Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for the city, it was recorded at a minimum of 2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, five degrees below normal.

Earlier, Delhi was in the grip of cold wave and the temperature had reached 1.1 degrees. The scientists then declared a cold wave in Delhi. Cold wave occurs in the plains when the minimum temperature is 10°C or below or 4.5 degrees below normal for two days continuously. The cold wave is declared in the plains when the minimum temperature is less than 4°c. Witnessing a cold day and a cold wave together means that the difference between day and night temperatures was less than normal.
