Weather Update: Delhi cover in fog, temperature falls below 5 degrees

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently issued a statement saying that the country's capital recorded a minimum temperature of less than 5 degrees Celsius on Friday for the third consecutive day amid cold and fog. The temperature at Safdarjung Observatory has been recorded at 4.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the Regional Forecasting Centre, Indian Meteorological Department, said that the visibility in Safdarjung has been 201 metres due to moderate fog. There is light fog in Palam area. According to an estimate released by the Meteorological Department, fog is considered to be extremely dense, dense between 51 and 200 metres, medium between 201 and 500 metres and visibility between 501 and 1000 when visibility is between zero to 50 metres.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a cold wave in Delhi by Saturday. The temperature is expected to rise on Sunday and Monday as the new Western disturbance reaches the high altitude areas of the Himalayas. Light fog is also expected to be reported.
