NEW DELHI: St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University under lockdown after 17 resident students tested positive. Along with the students, two staff members accompanying them tested corona positive after following a college-approved field trip.
The principal of the college replied to governing body member confirming that the trip was approved by the college authorities and that prior permission was taken from the students’ parents. In a brief email, it was written “Please be informed that the Dean's Office is aware of the situation and necessary steps have already been taken in consultation with medical and civic authorities.” Officials have blocked the inner perimeter of the college and have only allowed access to the outer perimeter for those with “relevant and regular work”. Also, as a precautionary, the college has also asked teaching staff to defer coming to the college till further notifications and developments related to the situation will be posted on the college website.
Talking about the condition of Delhi, the state has been witnessing a worrying spike in coronavirus cases. It is reported by the health officials that Delhi is among the 11 states and union territories which accounts for over 90 percent of the cases and deaths in the country.
