The opposition is objecting to the fast-track passage of bills in Parliament. Expressing displeasure over the Centre's stand, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien tweeted on Wednesday that the Centre has been targeted. "The Parliament should review the bills. We're delivering pizzas or passing bills.'

Earlier on Tuesday, the TMC MP had said that the way the bills are being passed is a way to ridicule Parliament and the government is suppressing the opposition. He also attached a chart in his tweet. It reviewed 60 per cent of the bills by Parliament during 2004-2009, the figure was 71 per cent in 2009-2014, while in 2014-2019 it came down to 26 per cent. In the current Lok Sabha session, 18 bills have been passed out of which only one bill has been sent for review.

For your information, 17 leaders of opposition parties had written to Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu expressing their displeasure. The letter expressed serious concern over the government not sending various bills to the Parliamentary Committee and without review. Opposition parties accuse the government of haste in passing the bill. They say that the government is not sending important bills to the Standing Committees of Parliament. At the end of the letter, using the insistence words, it is written that "you will accept the spirit in which this letter is written and take appropriate steps to protect the rights of the members." Leaders of 17 parties, including Ram Gopal Yadav of SP and Sanjay Singh of AAP, have also signed.
