Moscow: Several cases related to subvariants of the Delta variant of Covid-19 have been reported in Russia. It is now being said that the variant could prove more contagious and deadly than before. In fact, recently a researcher Kamil Khafijof has said that 'AY.4.2's subvariant is about 10 per cent more lethal, due to which record new cases and deaths are being recorded in Russia.'

But he has also said that 'The pace of its spread is slow at present. Vaccines are effective against this variant of the virus, it is not so different that dramatically changes the potency of antibodies.' Let us also inform all of you that cases of the AY.4.2 subvariant are increasing in England. At the same time, in the UK, 6% of the cases that have increased since September 27 are cases related to this variant. This has been disclosed in the UK Health Protection Agency report released on 15 October. Britain's Health Minister Sajid Javid said on Wednesday that "there is currently no reason to believe that this subvariant may prove to be a greater threat than the delta variant."

On the other hand, Russian immunologist Nikolay Krushkov said, 'Delta and its subvariants will continue to be effective in the future and may be adapted to some types of vaccine, especially where the vaccination rate is less than or near the same 50 per cent.' Along with this, he also said that 'though it does not seem that there will be any big change in this because coronavirus also has a limit and a sharp jump in it has already been seen.'
