The loss of Shaoli Mitra, a well-known actress and theatre personality, shocked everyone. On Sunday, the daughter of famed actresses Sambhu and Tripti Mitra died at her home in South Kolkata. Only after the funeral rites were done was the news of her death communicated with others, as per her last desire. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, conveyed her grief. The news has angered a lot of theatrical fans.

Actor Gourab Roy Chowdhury, who was a member of one of Kolkata's most prominent theatre companies, recalled the famous personality. "With her abrupt death, a magnificent period came to an end," he recalls. Her impact to the world of theatre is unmatched. Her death left a great vacuum in our lives."

Gourab took a trip down memory lane, recalling his first viewing of one of Shaoli's productions. "It was a weird experience for me to watch her creation. There was never a day when Utpal Datt, Sambhu Mitra, Tripti Mitra, or Shaoli Mitra's names were not discussed during our courses or rehearsals when I was a member of Koushik Da's theatrical company. "They are the holy grail for everybody who wants to be an actor," Gourab explains.

Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Banga Bibhushan, and Padma Shri have all been bestowed to Shaoli Mitra. When she was young, she portrayed Amal in Rabindranath Tagore's 'Dakghar.' Ritwik Ghatak's Jukti Takko Aar Gappo included the acclaimed actress and writer as well.
