Chennai: The High Court has reprimanded another south star over a luxury car Rolls Royce case. Rajinikanth's son-in-law and actor Dhanush had approached the Madras High Court seeking entry tax exemption on car imports from the UK. He had filed a petition in this regard in 2015, which, refusing to be quashed, was directed by the court to deposit the tax arrears of Rs 30,30,757 within 48 hours. Earlier, the court had imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on South actor Vijay for reprimanding him.

The High Court slammed Dhanush saying that the tax has not been paid so far even after the apex court disposed of the case in 2018. His lawyer then told the court that he had already paid 50 per cent tax and would also pay the dues by August 9. The court further said that after "rich, rich and distinguished persons" import trains from other countries, they are run without paying entry tax on the roads of Tamil Nadu. There has been a tradition of refusing to pay entry tax. This causes a lot of loss to the revenue of the State.

According to the report, Madras High Court Justice SM Subramanian said that these people demand tax exemption in imported luxury cars while the general public also pays tax on buying soap. The court also lashed out at actor Dhanush's lawyer. Justice Subramanian said, "Film actors can even buy helicopters, but tax has to be paid for it. The common man is paying tax even after the petrol prices have gone up, then why are you facing such problems?" Dhanush had not disclosed his profession in his affidavit, which the court has strongly reprimanded.
