In the country, politics is becoming increasingly hot these days regarding 'Love Jihad'. Most of the BJP ruled states have started making laws regarding this. Another BJP-ruled state has announced that it is going to bring a bill to ban 'Love Jihad' and a complete ban on cow slaughter. As the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said, 'Many states have already brought a bill regarding Love Jihad. In this series, we are in the process of bringing a bill against 'Love Jihad' and a complete ban on cow slaughter.'
Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Thursday that the law against the Love Jihad in the state is going to be implemented. Instructions have been issued to the officials to collect information about the ordinance issued in Uttar Pradesh in this regard. It is noteworthy that UP has recently passed an ordinance against forcible or fake conversions, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine up to Rs 50,000.

The term Love Jihad is being used by right-wing activists for incidents whereby a Hindu girl is converted to Islam on the pretext of a love affair. Bommai said, 'When the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh have started considering it, we too started thinking about how to ensure that pressure or coercion (in conversion) is used. This is the main thing. While talking to reporters in Udupi, he said that UP has recently issued an ordinance in this regard and instructions have been issued to Karnataka authorities to get a copy of it. He said, "After gathering information about the steps taken by other states, we will definitely implement a law against Love Jihad in Karnataka as well. The Chief Minister has given his consent for this."
